Construction Framing
Construction framing is one the most important steps in getting your house built just the way you want it. During the framing process, you can make all of your changes to your room sizes and layout of the rooms. Make sure you catch your contractor during the line snapping stage of the project if you are going to make any changes to the wall layout. This will save you a great deal of money because they won't have to rebuild anything or remodel anything. Construction framing is also very important because this is where the concrete can be straightened to a degree. The framing can be moved around on the concrete to square up a house. You can also take any humps out of the concrete by cuts made during the framing stage. It is very important, during the framing stage of your construction project to check boards in the wall for being straight. This can be done using a long straight edge or straight board. You lay the board horizontally against the wall. Boards that push the straight edge away from the other wall boards more than 1/4" should be replaced. Same thing for the boards that are not touching the straight edge by 1/4". This is especially important on exterior walls, for humps will show in the siding, and kitchen walls where the cabinets are going to be. There should not be any veriance in the wall boards in the kitchen because the counter top is really straight and any humps in the wall here will show a lot, and the cabinet people's work will not be as good. The amount of wall boards needing changed out can be greatly reduced if you ask your framer to crown all the boards before they are nailed, and take out any boards that have more than a 3/8" crown. A crown is the hump you see in a board while looking down the board while it is turned on edge. This process will ensure that your walls are straight the first time around. Square, straight, plumb, and level are the main things to keep in mind, and to check while your framing is being done. Square is especially important in the kitchen and in the bathrooms where there is going to be cabinets and or vanities. It is also important where the tubs are going to sit. Keep checking these points while your construction framing is in progress, and this will make the rest of the project during the finishing stages go much smoother. This in turn will make the job go much faster. Montana Contractor: Click Here for your bid or to see some previous work.
