Shower Enclosures Don't Have to be Psycho |
Shower enclosures bring to mind that dingy old shower curtain â€" at least for some people. For me, the movie 'Psycho' had me swearing off anything I couldn't see out from behind. I didn't want to be left guessing what was behind curtain number one â€" from either side really.
I'm not alone in my dislike for some types of shower enclosures. Over the last few years some innovative, creative, and even fun ways have emerged to keep water off the bathroom floors. Contractors are using clear glass, textured glass, and glass blocks to cover the shower. There are even luxury showers with no enclosure â€" think high school shower but very upscale.
Shower enclosures are more for convenience than anything else. Even a correctly installed door is not water proof. Instead, it is just to maintain the water sprayed from the shower head into the confined space. Unlike Garfield (who several years ago not only filled the shower but surfed out of it when the door was full), the average person will never be able to fill their shower and take a dip.
If you are looking to redo your bathroom then the shower enclosure is a great, and often inexpensive way to give the room a whole new look. Just taking down the old frilly curtains and clear plastic inner curtain will open up the room. Add a simple clear glass door, and the bathroom becomes a whole new space.
For those who are very creative or very daring in their home renovations, glass block could offer an interesting shower enclosure. It may be that you enclose the space partially with block and the rest with a door. Or it may be that you are daring enough to leave an opening to step through. Either way, the translucent blocks with brings new life to a room you use every day.
Shower enclosures no longer have to be dull. With the options available today, it can be the center piece of the bathroom.
